I’m really impressed with Skar, they are the only company that I know about that doesn’t lie about their specs. Other companies use really good rose colored glasses for their specs. The model # for the amp I just bought for my stereo is RP-75.4AB, this is the 4 ohm spec. It actually puts out 75 watts RMS at 4 ohms on all four channels without clipping. Now that’s only 300 watts total for what they call a 500 watt RMS amp, but they also spec out for 2 ohm load which is 115 watts RMS, 460 watts total. I think this amp is really intended to be used with a 4 ohm load going by the model #.My first encounter with Skar was with my Karaoke system sub amp. It’s a RP-1200.1 and it really does put out 1200 watts RMS into a 1 ohm load, just like the spec says. I liked Skar so much that when I started looking for a 4 channel amp to replace my 2 McIntosh MC240s in my stereo, which I wasn’t having much luck with, I thought about Skar and searched for Skar amps. I found the RP75.4AB, it’s a class AB amp which I like for full bandwidth and it’s still 65% efficient. My Macs also run class AB but they are only about 40% efficient plus there’s the power used by all filaments which makes the actual efficiency even lower. In other words the Macs are room heaters. I just ran my stereo with the Skar amp for about an hour with good volume and the amp is barely warm. It also sounds really good, I was hoping it would sound as good as the Macs but instead I was surprised it sounded better, it was cleaner at mid and high ranges. The Macs probably need new tubes so that would explain the difference in quality, which is the main reason I bought the Skar amp to begin with, THERE ARE NO REALLY EXPENSIVE VACUUM TUBES TO REPLACE! This would have cost way more then what I paid for my new system using the RP75.4AB.
