Because of its deliciously sweet medium-sized fig, the Celeste Fig is also known as the ‘Sugar Fig’! The Celeste Fig Tree is well known and widely planted, self-fertile, and low maintenance, aside from needing winter protection in freezing temperatures. Being a deciduous tree, your Celeste Fig Tree will lose its leaves in the colder seasons, and in the spring, it will bring back its bright green leaves and baby fruit! Its medium-sized figs have violet skin, rose-colored flesh, and a sugary sweet, rich flavor and taste. The figs’ small, closed eye prevents fruit rot from insects and moisture, increasing fruit production – but watch out for the dried fruit beetle and other critters like squirrels and birds who may eat your fresh figs before you can harvest them! The Landscape Plant For Any Yard The Celeste Fig, also known by its scientific name Ficus carica ‘Celeste’, is a unique variety of sweet fruiting fig that is self-pollinating and is known to be a heavy producer. This versatile fig can be eaten fresh, cooked down into a jam, sliced up for a salad or charcuterie board, or dried. As one of the more cold-hardy varieties, this fig can be enjoyed in USDA growing zones 7-10, which covers about a third of the USA.  As a heavy fruit producer, this fig can provide enough figs to satisfy any need.   The Celeste Sugar Fig is a dwarf variety, so it only gets up to 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide, providing plenty of branches to produce its fruit. This fig responds extremely well to pruning and is nearly impossible to kill. This fig tree is a fast grower and but will lose its leaves in the winter.
